Cutting-edge AM modelling

To make the best components, we need the best designs

For a relatively new technology like metal Additive Manufacturing (AM), traditional design rules are being rewritten. Through exploring and simulating innovative solutions, we can take advantage of this emerging space to push the boundaries of component performance.
However, AM presents its own set of challenges as well as benefits, and to mitigate these we use processing expertise and physics-based simulation through our internally-built computational design platforms. This allows us to understand the impact of supports, build orientation, and processing parameters to explore the cutting edge of this novel technology.

Chronos watch casing

Advanced, lightweight watch casing.

Alloyed’s design and simulation capabilities allow us to push the boundaries of current performance for electronics wearables. Smart wearables like watches, glasses and rings bring challenging thermal and structural specifications, but we tackle this using simulation, and AM-specific design features. For this watch case: lattices and ribs were used for improving specific stiffness; hollowing of internal geometries and topology optimisation create more space for the electronics and battery; and user experience is improved through lightweighting and thermal management. AM and lightweighting also reduce material waste during manufacture, enhancing the sustainability of the product.
