Operations

Advanced manufacturing solutions

Enabling our next generation designs and materials to become a reality

Our Operations integrate cutting-edge additive manufacturing and inspection techniques, with advanced process control to create a seamless manufacturing solution. From build file to final part, we make data-driven decisions to ensure our Operations deliver superior performance, quality, and control.
With knowledge and facilities spanning digital and traditional manufacturing techniques, we build a custom processing package to push the boundaries of metal performance, with the customer’s requirements at the forefront.

Data-driven platinum alloy development

Optimising platinum alloys with data science.

Platinum group metals are highly sought after in the jewelry and luxury market for their durability and wear resistance, but are notoriously hard to work with. Alloyed, in collaboration with Anglo American, developed a new alloy composition - Inoveo - that is 40% harder and 4 times faster to machine than traditional platinum. This was achieved through our ABD® platform combining data science and materials models to explore available alloy compositions. Through data science techniques, we could explore the multi-dimensional design space faster which not only speeds up development end-to-end, but also reduces time and material spent on unsuitable compositions.

Chronos watch casing

Advanced, lightweight watch casing.

Alloyed’s design and simulation capabilities allow us to push the boundaries of current performance for electronics wearables. Smart wearables like watches, glasses and rings bring challenging thermal and structural specifications, but we tackle this using simulation, and AM-specific design features. For this watch case: lattices and ribs were used for improving specific stiffness; hollowing of internal geometries and topology optimisation create more space for the electronics and battery; and user experience is improved through lightweighting and thermal management. AM and lightweighting also reduce material waste during manufacture, enhancing the sustainability of the product.

ABD®-1000AM

High temperature nickel superalloy, developed for AM

Designed in collaboration with Aubert & Duval and using Alloyed’s ABD® platform, this novel alloy provides excellent environmental resistance and high-temperature strength, with a working temperature range beyond 1,000°C in its age-hardened state. Compared to cast alloy Ni247LC, this offers near-equivalent stress rupture life while allowing crack-free Additive Manufacturing and heat treatment, enabling complex part design for components within the aerospace, power, automotive, defence and space industries.
