Alloyed is a young venture-funded company of around 150 world-class metallurgists, mechanical engineers, technicians, and software developers working across three offices in the UK and one in the US, building the future of advanced metal components. We use proprietary software packages that combine advanced machine learning and physical modelling, as well as extensive experimental facilities, to 3D print metal components better and faster than anyone else.

At our premises in Yarnton and Abingdon, near Oxford, we are aiming to build the world’s fastest, smartest, and best-equipped facility for the rapid development of additively manufactured parts for the electronics, aerospace and industrial sectors, and novel metal alloys for better performance.

Alloyed is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented CNC Operator to join our manufacturing team. As a CNC Operator, you will be responsible for the setup, operation, and maintenance of computer numerical control (CNC) machines. Your expertise will contribute to the efficient production of precision components and ensure the overall functionality of the CNC machinery.

The ideal candidate should possess strong technical knowledge, problem-solving abilities, and a keen eye for quality assurance. You will work closely with engineers and technicians, ensuring that the work is carried out according to process specification and schedule, and that technical challenges are quickly tackled.

You will be based in Abingdon. Training will be provided where required.

Machine Setup and Operation

• Configure and set up CNC machines according to specifications, including loading necessary tools, fixtures, and materials.
• Operate CNC machines to execute machining processes, such as milling, turning and drilling, following established procedures and safety guidelines.
• Monitor machine operations, inspecting completed workpieces to ensure conformance to quality standards and make adjustments as necessary.

Maintenance

• Perform routine maintenance on CNC machines, including calibrating, cleaning, lubricating, and replacing worn-out components.
• Conduct regular inspections to identify and resolve machine malfunctions, mechanical issues, or programming errors.

Quality Control

• Conduct thorough inspections of machined parts using precision measuring instruments (e.g. calipers, micrometers) to verify dimensional accuracy and adherence to specifications.
• Identify any deviations or defects in the production process, implementing corrective actions to maintain product quality.
• Collaborate with quality control personnel to establish and maintain quality assurance procedures, documenting and reporting any quality issues or concerns.

Documentation and Reporting

• Maintain accurate records of machine setup parameters, tooling data, and production logs.
• Provide timely updates and communicate effectively with supervisors, engineers, and other team members regarding production status and any issues encountered.

• 2+ years’ experience in CNC machining (including apprenticeship)
• Experience working in a precision engineering environment
• Organised and able to work independently, but also to collaborate with a diverse, fast-moving team
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• Hands-on attitude and willingness to learn new skills
• High level of attention to detail
• Willingness to work afternoon shift

• Experience with metal additive manufacturing or working with near-net shape parts
